What students can learn from Matthew and Tilly is the importance of apologizing for things one does not mean to do and say which can happen in the context of playing games or any time during a friendship. English Language Learners, in particular, need the language of saying I'm sorry. Before completing this worksheet, I have students think of a time that they might have upset someone and act out with a partner a dramatization of that event. Then we discuss some of the language of saying I'm sorry (see idea bank on worksheet). Students complete the worksheet by filling in the dialogue bubbles above the characters on the "Matthew and Tilly -- Saying I'm Sorry Worksheet." The characters can be Matthew and Tilly or any characters from students' own lives.
