Teaching Parts of Speech

Background for Teachers/Students:

At any grade level, I teach parts of speech by using a Farmer in the Dell chart. Students suggest parts of speech and I chart them...each is color coded, and usually they come from the unit we're currently studying. Once the chart is completed, students choose one of the most interesting choices in each list and three adjectives. (I use a piece of rolled up masking tape to mark which ones were chosen). Then you sing the chart to the tune of Farmer in the Dell. For example, "The little, mean pigs, the little, mean pigs, the little, mean, pretty pigs bounce in the zoo.
