Buy the Book This story is about a king who loves nothing more than his clothes. His servants bring him stacks of clothing morning, noon and night. Looking at clothes was was the king's favorite thing to do. He made the servants crazy by always changing his mind, leaving his clothes laying around the castle, and changing outfits every hour. One day 2 visitors came and told the king that they made the most beautiful clothing in the world. He hired them right away. The visitors would not show the emperor their work - saying it had to be kept in the highest secrecy. Further, they said that only the wisest persons could see and appreciate such beautiful clothing. The King was fearful he wouldn't be able to see the clothing (might he not be wise enough??) so he sent his minister to check them out. The minister came to see the clothing - but all he saw was an empty clothes hanger! He didn't say anything because he didn't know WHAT to say and he certainly didn't want to appear unwise! Finally, the emperor went to his big parade with his new outfit on - but when he walked out in front of his townspeople - he was naked! He thought everyone was silent because they loved his outfit so much. Finally a small child said, "He has no clothes on!" When the king heard that, he held his head higher, walked calmly, and continued the procession. The people thought he handled the difficult situation SO WELL, that they ended up actually respecting him more!
